Private Pilot Certificate

Earning your private pilot certificate is an exciting adventure. The private pilot certificate is the one held by the majority of active pilots today. This rating will let you fly unlimited distances for any non-commercial purpose under visual flight rules (VFR).

Your training will be a personalized one-on-one program. This program will start with basic maneuvers that will progress at your pace through your first solo to you earning the private pilot certificate. Once you have your certificate, you can take your family and friends for flights.

To earn a private pilot certificate, you’ll need to meet the minimum age requirement:

  • Be at least 16 to become a student pilot and fly solo (14 for gliders).
  • Be at least 17 to test for a private pilot certificate (16 for gliders).
  • Be able to read, write, and understand English.
  • Hold a minimum of a third class airman’s medical certificate to establish medical fitness.
  • Pass an FAA private pilot knowledge test, also known as the written test.
  • Complete a minimum of 40 hours of training (Part 61).
  • Pass an FAA private pilot practical test, also known as the flight test or check-ride.
