High Performance Endorsement

A high-performance airplane is defined as an airplane with an engine capable of developing more than 200 horsepower.

This endorsement removes the license limitation and allows you to pilot any high performance aircraft for which you are licensed. Depending on your proficiency, plus any requirements that your insurance carrier may have, the minimum training would include:

  • 1 hour of ground instruction on systems operation, ground and air handling, and aircraft performance.
  • 1 hour of flight instruction on engine management and emergency procedures.

Complex Airplane Endorsement

A complex airplane is an airplane that has a retractable landing gear, flaps, and a controllable pitch propeller. In lieu of a controllable pitch propeller, the aircraft could also have an engine control system consisting of a digital computer and associated accessories for controlling the engine and the propeller.

Depending on your proficiency, plus any requirements that your insurance carrier may have, the minimum training would include:

  • 1-2 hours of ground instruction on advanced systems management, checklist usage, aircraft performance and air/ground handling.
  • 1-2 hours of flight usually includes several emergency procedures involving system failures, speed management, precision handling, engine/systems management and competency in handling complex aircraft.
